Bloom Where You Are Planted

🌿 Devotional: Faithful in the Everyday

“Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus…” — Colossians 3:17

God has uniquely positioned each of us to help people find and follow Jesus—right where we are. Where you live, where you work, where your kids practice soccer or hockey are beautiful, divine appointments to share the love of Jesus.

Sometimes we think impact requires something big or extraordinary. But throughout Scripture, we see that God works powerfully through ordinary people who are simply faithful.

In Luke 8, Jesus describes a seed that grows not because it was impressive, but because it was planted in good soil and remained rooted.

This is still the invitation for us. Let’s be people who show up. As Americans living where we live, there is not much we can sacrifice to Jesus that is truly a sacrifice. What activity, time commitment, or scheduling conflict can you sacrifice to just be available for your neighbors? Let’s be people who stay faithful. Let’s be people who trust that God is continually growing something, especially when we don’t see anything popping through the soil yet.
This is how hope is unleashed.

Where has God planted you in this season?
And what would it look like to take one faithful step this week?

🙏 Prayer Focus

We believe prayer is where outreach begins. Before we go, we ask God to move.

  • Our Community — That individuals and families in St. Charles County would experience stability, provision, and the hope of Jesus
  • Our Ministry Partners — For endurance, wisdom, and encouragement as they serve on the front lines every day
  • Our Church — That more people would step into serving as a next step in following Jesus. Pray that barriers are removed that keep people from finding ways to serve and signing up to serve outside the walls of Harvester.

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, help me see what You see. Break my heart for what breaks Yours, and give me courage to step in.

Your Next Step

You don’t have to do everything, but you are invited to do something. Serving is not just about filling a need. It’s part of how we grow as followers of Jesus. Ask to shadow other HCC volunteers at these events. Consider committing to a monthly serving opportunity. Invite a friend or your small group to serve with you

When we serve together, we don’t just meet needs—we help people find and follow Jesus.

❤️ Closing Encouragement

We are not here by accident. We are sent. We are sent into our specific neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities. Let’s be a church that sees the need—and steps in to fill the need with faith, courage, and love. Don’t wait for the church to make an event or program. Find joy in being obedient to what God is calling you to do today.

November 2025 Newsletter

🍁 Harvester Christian Church Local Outreach
November Newsletter

Hello Harvester family! As we step into this season of gratitude, we look back on a month full of generosity, service, and reminders of God’s faithfulness. Thank you for being a church that continually unleashes the hope of Jesus into our neighborhoods.

✨ A Brief Devotional on Gratitude

In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Paul writes, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Gratitude isn’t just a feeling—it’s a spiritual practice that reorients our hearts toward God’s goodness, even when circumstances fall short of ideal.

This month, we witnessed gratitude lived out:

  • Students thanking veterans.
  • Families giving from what they had.
  • Volunteers quietly and faithfully showing up to serve.

Gratitude grows when we pause, notice, and name God’s movement around us. As you enter this holiday season, take time each day to reflect on one moment where you saw God’s kindness. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your heart fills.

🇺🇸 Veterans Day at Harvest Ridge Elementary

This month we had the honor of supporting Harvest Ridge Elementary’s Veterans Day celebration. Our volunteers helped welcome veterans, serve families, and celebrate the bravery of those who have served our country. It was a beautiful picture of community partnership—students learning honor, families gathering in gratitude, and our church helping create sacred moments in a public school setting.

🥫 Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Thank you to everyone who donated food this month! Your generosity supported families in need across St. Charles County. We watched bags of groceries show up on porches, in lobbies, and at the church doors—each one a quiet act of love that speaks loudly of Jesus!

💛 Celebrating 25 Years with the Child Advocacy Center

This month also marked the 25th anniversary of the Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri, one of our cherished community partners. We are grateful for their decades of work advocating for vulnerable children and families. Harvester is honored to support this mission through prayer, financial contributions, and awareness. Their unwavering commitment reminds us what hope in action truly looks like.

🤝 LO/GS Gathering: Leaders Strengthening Leaders

Our Local Outreach / Guest Services Gathering brought together volunteers and ministry leads to share stories, encourage one another, and pray over the year ahead. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed. These gatherings strengthen our mission: leading people to find and follow Jesus through generosity and justice.

We are only activated where the temperature is forecasted to be 20 degrees or below. There are many ways to support this ministry, from volunteering to staying overnight with a team of Harvester Christians, providing a hot meal, helping with laundry, and always praying. We will have an EWR Warming Center training on Sunday, January 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Annex. RSVP BY CLICKING THIS LINK.

You can commit today to being on call the week of January 18-24, 2026 by CLICKING ON THIS LINK. Start praying now for the guests who will come through our doors—and consider how you might serve or support the team this winter.

Thank you, Harvester, for being a church that unleashes hope—not only in words, but in action, consistency, sacrifice, and love.
Let’s step into December with grateful hearts and ready hands to lead people to find and follow Jesus!.

With much love
Carissa

October 2025 Newsletter

Just pretend when you open this newsletter it’s still October because I am sure most of you are like me, thinking: “What the what, how did November and that Vile Daylight Savings Time Sneak In!

God and I have been simmering in Matthew 9 and Ephesians 4 for many weeks now. For this month, I want to invite you to settle into Matthew 9:37-38.

In Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Is it just me, or is there an actual command from Jesus that says to pray for laborers to be raised up and sent out? What does that mean for us at HCC Local Outreach? I often tell others that people who choose to serve with Local Outreach really do see the world differently. They have a very hard time passing by those who are suffering. It almost physically hurts them to overlook those who are hungry, those who are thirsty, those who are naked, those who are in prison. My heart, mind and soul have been especially burden this month with the increasing needs of our community. Recently I have often felt overwhelmed and ineffective. It has been a beautiful thing though, because it reminds me to daily and almost hourly surrender to God, submit to His authority, and trust in Him. It has also been a reminder that I am to be obedient to His calling, but I am not responsible for the outcomes. Those battles belong to the Lord.

Your faithful service in the HCC Food Pantry, school outreach, the Sharing Shed, or any part of being a Good Neighbor and serving with HCC Local Outreach is a living answer to that prayer. You are the hands and feet of Jesus, meeting physical needs and planting seeds of hope in our community.

Thank you for your compassion, your time, and your heart for people. Whether you’re stocking shelves, praying with families, or simply offering a smile, you are making an eternal impact.

We’re praying for more laborers to join this beautiful work. If you know someone who might be interested in serving, invite them to one of our upcoming VIP Tours—a behind-the-scenes look at how ministry happens at Harvester and how others can use their gifts and talents to unleash hope in our city.. These tours are a great way to connect, learn, and take the first step toward volunteering.

Volunteer recruitment is ongoing, and we’d love to welcome new hearts into this mission. Let’s continue to pray for God to stir hearts and send more workers into His harvest. Our world needs us more than ever.

Upcoming Events

November 1: As you have heard in the news, SNAP benefits are suspended during the federal government shutdown. We are anticipating more of our neighbors needing support during this unusual time. The food pantry always needs canned meat, canned meals, fresh meat ( venison too!), and cereal. Our HCC food pantry also needs your plastic grocery bins. You can drop off donations in the covered bin outside of the South entrance, Monday through Thursday, or in the wooden bin near the TV in the Mission Cafe on Sundays. We love hearing stories of Harvester Christians like Stacey Floweree mobilizing her neighbors to give to their neighborhood food drive to support the pantry. Thank you Stacey and friends!

Tuesday, 11-4-25 There is nothing on the ballot in our area so HCC is not needed as our neighborhood’s regular polling site. The next time we will serve our neighbors in this way is April 2026.

If you plan to serve in any capacity during the warming centers in January or February 2026,  I highly encourage you to attend this EWR training at Wentzville Christian Church from 6:30 to 8:30. If you need to carpool, we are meeting at the church at 5:50 PM and leaving at 6 PM. Not only will this provide a clear vision of why we do this, but also how we do this, and as you know, knowledge is always power!

Thursday 11-6-25

The closure of the O’Fallon Salvation Army Shelter has left people, including children, without a safe place to go. Specialty shelters are nearly full, and families in crisis are being sent outside the county for help. Temperatures are cooling in St. Charles County, and it has been 637 days (nearly TWO YEARS) since we’ve had an option for our families seeking emergency shelter.. Over 600 of our neighbors are at risk. The Continuum of Care for St. Charles, Warren, and Lincoln Counties is actively looking for resources and partners to address this urgent need. Together, we can do better for our neighbors. Our community is invited to attend Community Coffee Conversation: No Place To Go at Saints Joachim and Ann Care Service to hear directly from those on the front lines, share ideas, and explore urgent solutions.

Let’s learn what’s needed—and how each of us can help. Attendance is free, but registration is required. Click here to register.
Event Timeline:
8:30 am Doors open for networking and intentional connections
9:00 – 9:15 am Member announcements
9:15 – 10:00 am Presentation/ Discussion

With so many of our local children and families experiencing stress from strikes, furloughs, or their benefits being paused, we need to serve from our knees even more. We will have two School Outreach Prays and Preps this month to pray for our schools as well, and prep our handwritten cards and gifts for teachers for the upcoming Christmas season. In November, we will meet in the Annex on Monday, November 10 and November 24 at 6:30 p.m. Enter through door #10. Our Annual LO/GS Gathering is just around the corner! This is the only time all of Local Outreach, Food Pantry, and Guest Services volunteers can be together in one setting! We will enjoy a fellowship meal from Ginghams together as we celebrate all you did this year to unleash hope inside and outside the walls of Harvester! We will hear our Vision for next year and receive some practical evangelism training, and pray for how God will use us to bring more laborers to the harvest!

Immediate Volunteer Needs

Our ministry partners at Faith Haven House urgently need volunteers.
Volunteers are needed to be at Faith Haven House every afternoon and evening between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Volunteers are primarily needed to socialize with any residents who are present during those hours. Other volunteers who have served in this capacity share that sometimes it is just chatting around the dinner table. Other times it’s watching TV or playing cards. Other times, it was teaching a hobby like crocheting. As consistent, trusting relationships are built with the residents over time, there will be opportunities to share the gospel. If you are interested in learning more about this serving opportunity, please reach out to Dareth at Faith Haven House at faith.haven.house@gmail.comFaith Haven House

The Child Advocacy Center of Northeast MO is looking for 1-2 unique volunteers. They have been diligently building out a chaplaincy program called The Hope Project to assist children and families who seek their services in the healing process. The CAC has also seen a need for its staff to have spiritual care as well. You do not have to have specific chaplain qualifications or credentials. The crux of chaplaincy is the Ministry of Presence. God can do so much when we are willing to sit in the hardships and heartbreaks of others, just so they know they are not alone. If you would like to know more about joining this small team of CAC chaplains, email Carissa at cfiggins@harvester.cc
Food Pantry Van drivers are needed to pick up food donations. The pickups consist of going to 3 stores and picking up their available donations that day using the HCC Food Pantry Van. Food Pantry Van Drivers need to be able to pick up boxes that weigh up to 50lbs. Food Pantry Van Drivers would bring items back to the HCC food pantry, weigh each store’s donation separately in several categories, and put away accordingly (freezer, cooler, table).
Pickups are in the mornings, Wednesdays & Fridays. A Saturday driver is also needed to pick up on Saturday mornings from the Lindenwood Schnucks bakery. Potential volunteers will need a cleared motor vehicle records check through HCC before driving. Email Sherry Bollinger today with questions to get started on you being the next best happy van driver! sbollinger@harvester.cc
Did you know? The Good Neighbor Serve Crew receives requests from HCC members and our neighbors to help with one-time tasks such as moving, mowing, powerwashing, simple home or car repairs, or trimming trees and bushes. Needs are posted in this group and grabbed as schedules and skills allow. Want to be added to the group? Email Jillian at jhohensee@harvester.cc

SAVE THE DATE(S)!

Is it too soon to mention serving opportunities in December? Not when it involves PANCAKES because our people LOVE cooking tons of pancakes! Castlio Elementary School K-Kids is hosting a Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 13. Volunteers are needed to cook approximately 2000 pancakes and sausages between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
You can sign up now using this link! https://harvestercc.ccbchurch.com/…/737/responses/new

HCC has committed to being on call as one of the area warming centers the week of January 18-24, 2026, and February 15-21, 2026. The EWR warming centers are activated if the temperature is forecasted to be 20 degrees or less. This program is a death prevention intervention to keep our unhoused and most vulnerable neighbors safe in extreme weather conditions. This program is even more needed this year with the closure of the O’Fallon Salvation Army. There will be MANY volunteers needed to serve in MANY capacities. Prayer Warriors, Hospitality to cook and serve meals, Laundry, Set Up, Clean Up, but ESPECIALLY volunteers to stay overnight on the nights we are activated. Pray how God wants you to support this ministry, and mark your calendar now for this critical event. Sign-ups will be available soon.

Growing in Faith Through Serving-August 2025

Growing in Faith Through Serving

August has been filled with opportunities to love our neighbors well. From Back-to-School events to our Cooling Center for our unhoused neighbors, we’ve seen the power of showing up in Jesus’ name. When we serve, we don’t just meet practical needs—we grow spiritually. Jesus reminds us:
“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” (Mark 10:43)

As we move into this next season, let’s ask ourselves: How is God forming me as I serve others?

Current Opportunities

School Outreach Crew Leader – Becky David Elementary

We are looking for a Crew Leader to help us love and support the teachers, students, and families of Becky David Elementary. This role acts as a liasion between HCC and Becky David. The crew leader communicates with volunteers, helps create serving opportunities, and shares prayer requests with the School Outreach crew. If you are interested in learning more about this email Carissa at cfiggins@harvester.cc

School C.A.F.E.

Join us in building strong school–community partnerships through Community And Family Engagement (C.A.F.E.). HCC is hosting a community breakfast on Wednesday, September 10th, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Some of our local school principals will share their goals and unmet needs. The broader community of our church, other churches, non-profits that serve children, legislators, community leaders, and concerned neighbors will make an action plan for each school with 3, 6, and 9-month goals to better serve students, teachers, and families. Together, we can meet real needs in our local schools. Registration is required. Please share this form with your circles, small business owners, and service organizations before 9/3.

Math Tutors Needed – Central Elementary

Do you enjoy math and encouraging kids? Central Elementary needs math tutors to walk with students toward success! FHSD reached out specifically to Harvester Christian Church to recruit volunteers to serve two days a week for an hour each time during the school day. The commitment is only for 6 weeks at a time. Volunteers will need to complete the FHSD video-based volunteer training and background check, regardless of whether you have an active background check with HCC. HCC will reimburse you for that cost. If you are interested in serving in this capacity, your first step is to complete this FHSD Google form.

September Book Discussion

Ministry Spotlight: Faith Haven House

At Harvester Christian Church, we love celebrating the ways God is at work through our ministry partners. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Faith Haven House, a place where compassion meets practical support for unhoused men in need. Faith Haven House provides safe shelter, stability, and hope, walking alongside individuals as they take steps toward rebuilding their lives. Their mission beautifully reflects Christ’s love in action, and we’re honored to partner with them to make a difference in our community.
We recently asked them to share an update on how things are progressing and wanted to share that with you. Read on then comment with your prayers for Faith Haven House in the comments.
What is one specific way Harvester Christian Church’s GIVE HOPE contributions have unleashed hope in your organization or in the community through your organization?
{As of May} we have had 2 graduates of the program so far this year. Harvester’s Give Hope Funds allow us to continue to operate by helping homeless men get off the streets to stabilize themselves and not worry where their next meal will come from, giving them a warm, dry, safe place to stay while they work to get back on their own feet.
If Harvester Christians have served at your organization, what impact have they had on the community you serve?
We have volunteers from Harvester who serve as house monitors, provide meals,  and build relationships with the men who are staying here at Faith Haven House. We were also able to partner with the Sharing Shed to help one of our graduates furnish his new place.
Please share a brief client-success or services-success story we can share with Harvester Christian Church. Specific identifying information is not needed
Our most recent grad came to us after being on the streets for several days and had not eaten for a couple of days when he first reached out. We were able to provide food and get him moved in. While here, he started attending church again for the first time in many years and is also attending Celebrate Recovery. Upon moving out, he has been spending time with family fishing, and is most excited and will tell everyone who will listen that he is extremely excited for his grandkids to be able to come stay with him at this new place. Seeing the smile on his face and the newly found confidence will make anyone’s heart smile.
What existing volunteer needs can we share with Harvester Christians?
We need volunteers who are willing to come spend time at the house and build relationships with the guys who are here. Many times, the guys just want someone to have a conversation with or someone to watch a game with on the television.
What is a future program or project that could benefit from an investment of Harvester Christian GIVE HOPE funds?
We would like to start a mentor program. Assign a volunteer to a resident and have funds available for them to go out and do things together, whether that is a game, dinner, concert, or other events that interest the guys. The estimated cost is $10,000.
What is the estimated cost of this future program or project?
How can Harvester Christians pray for Faith Haven House?
Please pray for the guys who are here and all new ones who will be coming soon. Please pray for more volunteers, and pray for the staff to continue to seek God’s wisdom in situations that arise and the strength to endure.
What is one thing Harvester Christian can do to improve how we serve your organization?
Nothing at this time. We truly appreciate the continued support of Harvester Christian Church staff and members.

Is Your Small Group Ready To Serve?

With winter finally melting away and Daylight Savings time just around the corner many of us are also coming back to life! I have heard that many small groups have been on hold since the holidays with the onslaught of rough weather and long weeks of illness. Is your small group coming back to life? Are they starting to talk about how they can serve their community? Here are a few ideas to get them going!

1. The HCC Food Backpack Ministry serves about 100-120 local students every week. Your small group can help these children who experience food insecurity by hosting a food drive. This is an easy way to get neighbors involved near your host home as well. Collect canned ravioli, individual mac n cheese, nut-free snacks such as granola bars, beef jerky, and healthy fruit snacks. Plan a special time to pray over these students and families hit with hard times.

2. In the same vein, on average the HCC Food Pantry provides groceries for 130 clients. Could your small group consider hosting a canned food drive to help keep the pantry shelves stocked?

3. Does your small group enjoy being outdoors? Could they consider weeding and mulching at one of our local schools on a weeknight? Would they enjoy helping to keep the Journey Trails free of weeds and trash?

4. Does your small group have the gift of hospitality? Could they consider hosting one of our teacher appreciation breakfasts or lunches? Could they stock and deliver our WOOT WOOT cart, a snack and drink cart, to one of our local school partners?

5. Does your small group love shopping? Could they consider collecting 24 packed backpacks this summer for Pack A Pack? Could they purchase children’s socks and underwear for HCC Back To School events?

6. Is your small group packed with Prayer Warriors? Could they consider joining our monthly School Outreach Pray and Prep where we pray over local schools, administrators, teachers, and students?

7. Does your small group like to plan and host parties and fun events? Could they consider helping to organize community breakfasts or dinners for our community and ministry partners to come to HCC to be encouraged? Or help plan a teacher appreciation dinner?

8. Does your small group love children? Could they consider becoming a Family Friend or a Host Family with Safe Families for Children?

9. Does your small group have a heart for individuals living with disabilities? Could they consider connecting with our ministry partner Joni & Friends and serving at summer camps or family retreats this summer?

10. Does your small group’s heartbreak for our unhoused neighbors? Could they consider serving at a cooling center this summer or a warming center in the winter?

BONUS option: Does your small group want to serve but is not sure where to start? Consider inviting Carissa Figgins, our local Outreach Pastor to visit your small group and learn more about how your small group can lead others to find and follow Jesus!

Make sure each of your small group members subscribes to this blog and is following the HCC Outreach- St Charles Campus Facebook page to stay up to date on serving opportunities and more!

Reflections after our first Warming Center Experience

I don’t know if there are human words to express what we experienced this week hosting the overnight EWR Warming Center for our unhoused neighbors. Over 4 nights that dropped below the threshold of 20 degrees, HCC provided 115 beds to our homeless neighbors. As the temperatures plummeted outside it forced some of God’s most beautiful creations to come inside to us I’m not even sure how to organize my thoughts here to share our experiences.

I sway between being in awe and humility of God entrusting us with these people. I am grieved and saddened that God’s creations are so marginalized and so unseen. I swing back to being so proud of our volunteers stepping into the unknown and the uncomfortableness and watching them love and serve.  I am blown away by God’s provision not only for us in the facilities that we have, and services we have and the generosity of Harvester Christian folk through our Give Hope campaigns to His provision and our volunteers of providing energy, stamina, and love. We had young adults to retired folk provide hot meals and drinks. We had our neighbors at O’Fallon Christian help us with all the pounds of laundry and packing the trailer. We had Harvester volunteers in the thick of their own battles step in to serve. We had volunteers sacrifice sleep all night and then go work a full-time job the next day.

I don’t want to say that we provided shelter for our homeless neighbors because I think that puts a worldly understanding of a human being in your mind which is probably inaccurate. When I say the word homeless, I think we tend to jump to preconceived ideas and judgments about why someone might be in that situation. I could tell you that we served addicts. I could tell you that we served convicts. I could tell you that we served the mentally ill. I could tell you we served veterans. I could tell you that we served women who had experienced horrific sexual abuse and domestic violence but those are labels that limit and do not give honor to God’s creation. These are His people who were fearfully and wonderfully made who are just as lost and wounded as you and I. I will tell you instead that God provided us the opportunity to serve men and women and sons and daughters and husbands and wives. I can tell you that God provided the opportunity for us to serve someone’s child.

The final night that we were activated I was running on fumes. I’d had extremely little sleep all week long. Every day I was struggling to find the right number of volunteers, and food, and replace things that we had run out of while trying to take care of myself and my family as well. I rushed around getting the laundry and trying to have things ready for our volunteers as they arrived. As I pulled into the church parking lot the song “Gratitude” by Brandon Lake came on Joy FM. If you know me at all you know that this song absolutely wrecks me and brings me to tears. I reached up to turn the volume down and said “Lord, Really? Gratitude?  I cannot do this right now. I cannot break down. I have to keep going for the volunteers, our guests, and you!” The Lord’s response to me was,

“Baby girl, you know that you were never meant to do this on your own. I need you to remember to start and stop with gratitude. Don’t be just grateful that you are not homeless. Don’t be grateful that you do have a warm home to go to. Don’t be grateful that in the event of a major life crisis, you would have safety net after safety net after safety net. Don’t be grateful that you have insurance and that you are healthy.  Don’t be grateful that you don’t have to sleep in your car. Be grateful for who I am and who I say I am and the things that I have done and will do.”

Talk about perspective.

The coming days, weeks, months, and potentially years will be challenging as a community to provide resources to serve a variety of people. Whether it’s people dealing with mental illness, homelessness, job loss, a family with a child with autism or cerebral palsy, or people trying to acquire job skills. It will be tempting to hunker down for all the things God showed me I was holding onto.  It will be tempting to allow Satan to convince us to shield our eyes, to guard our hearts, to proceed in ignorance and judgment, to ignore the issues, and to go along with the status quo. My prayer for us after this week is that we won’t be able to help ourselves in serving others no matter the cost.  My prayer is that we will all cooperate with the Holy Spirit and not assume it is the church’s responsibility to provide an event or program. My prayer is that when it is the most uncomfortable, when it is the most unknown we will turn to God first and trust him to guide our steps and to provide wisdom and discernment. I pray we will be obedient to the Greatest Commandment of Loving God and Loving Others. I pray as Harvester Christians that we would continue to live out justice and generosity in our families, literal neighborhoods, in Saint Charles County, and across the globe.

Upcoming Serve Opportunities- November 2024-January 2024

As you start to map out your holiday plans don’t forget to prioritize serving our city. We have lots of things planned but I would love to hear how you and your small group will unleash hope in your neighborhoods during the holiday season!

Give Hope Ministry Partner Spotlight: REACH St Charles

I just stand in awe of the way God moves in the hearts of Harvester Christians! I know you will be encouraged to learn more about one of our Give Hope community partners especially when you learn it was started by two of our members Lisa Davis and Stacey Enders! Leave a comment below to encourage them to keep doing good in the name of the Lord!
 Give Hope Spring Impact Report
  1. What is one specific way Harvester Christian Church’s GIVE HOPE contributions have unleashed hope in your organization or to the community through your organization?
Harvester Christian Church has given us the ability to help more people in our community by giving out food, and feminine products to schools, and resources, as well as through special events and pop-ups.
2. If Harvester Christians have served at your organization, what impact have they had on the community you serve?
We have had Harvester volunteers help with our community pop-ups. They have been a tremendous help in putting food bags together and handing them out.
3. Please share a brief client-success or services-success story we can share with Harvester Christian Church.
After our Holiday Meal Box Outreach, we received a letter and photo from a family eating Christmas dinner. They wrote that without our meal box, they would not have been able to have a Christmas meal.
4. What existing volunteer needs can we share with Harvester Christians?
During the school year, we could use help in delivering feminine products to schools. We could also benefit from volunteers handing out food bags during our pop-ups.
5. Please list any upcoming non-fundraising events your organization is hosting in the next 90 days.
July 21st will be our next popup, where we will be handing out bags of food to the community. We will also be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers for the St. Charles COPS Camp pool party on July 19th. In the next month or so, we will also be announcing a scholarship opportunity for local community college students.
6. What is a future program or project that could benefit from Harvester Christian GIVE HOPE funds?
We are in the planning stages of offering a ‘Hometown Experience’ for local underprivileged kids or their families with special needs. The Hometown Experience is estimated to cost between $500-$700.We would also love to have a building of our own to keep feminine products, food and meet with clients.
7. How can we pray for your organization, staff, volunteers, clients, and community your organization serves?
We have been praying for the opportunity to purchase a building. We also need assistance in grant writing.
8. What is one thing Harvester Christian can do to improve how we serve your organization?
We appreciate the support and funding! If anything, more exposure so more people can learn about our organization.

They Don’t Know To Count On Us

It’s pretty well known that sleep is a struggle for me. But one of the blessings of being awake when the rest of the world is asleep is my conversations with God. Now granted, they can be pretty well laced with exhaustion and anxious thoughts but He can handle it. A lot of my worried thoughts center around the pain and suffering in this world. My heart breaks especially for those that suffer in silence and isolation. How will they know that God loves them? I know without a doubt these are some of Satan’s most powerful tools of manipulation and deceit. He convinces so many of us that we are alone. I think worse yet he convinces Christians not to step into others’ darkness, confusion, and loneliness.

How many of us when our gut tells us that our neighbor is hurting, or we read the unspoken body language of our neighbors that seems to be that they want to be left alone justify our inactions? How many of us who call ourselves followers of Christ talk ourselves out of connecting with our neighbors in their pain by saying they aren’t friendly, or they aren’t outgoing? How many of us use the phrase “it didn’t seem to be any of my business” or “I didn’t really want to get involved because I don’t know them very well?” Are we surprised when our neighbors don’t trust us to reach out?

They don’t know to count on us.

We live in a world where news headlines and cycles are dominated by war, death, violence, and political and ideological division. No one around us is unaffected by disease or divorce. Everyone is fighting some sort of battle. Satan is convincing us all to withdraw, hunker down, and disengage from our communities. It is a sin for us to ignore the pain around us. Many of us often forget the second greatest commandment Christ gave us: to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39). The world needs us more than ever to engage in love and step into our neighbor’s lives with gentleness, patience, grace, and mercy.

How do you do that in today’s climate? Well first, you go to the source of your strength. Our God goes before us, hedges us in on either side and protects us from behind. After prayer, you step out boldly and courageously.

And then you go to your neighbor consistently and lovingly so they know they can count on you,

  1. Pray for Them: Regularly pray for your neighbors, asking God to bless them, meet their needs, and reveal His love and truth to them. James 5:16 tells us there is tremendous power in the prayer of a righteous person.
  2. Serve Them: Look for ways to serve your neighbors with kindness and generosity. This could involve helping with yard work, offering to run errands, or simply being available to listen and offer support when needed. Jesus taught about the importance of serving others in Matthew 25:35-36, highlighting that serving others is akin to serving Him.
  3. Share Your Faith with Love: When appropriate and in a respectful manner, share your faith and the hope you have in Christ with your neighbors. This could include inviting them to church or Bible study, sharing personal testimonies of how your faith has impacted your life positively, or answering questions they may have about Christianity. Sharing our faith is more than having religious symbols on our houses or wearing Christian t-shirts in public. Our faith is a muscle that needs to be worked out over and over again. Our loving faith in God should be evident in our body language, our speech, our social media posts, our financial choices but most of all how we interact with those God specifically places around us. 1 Peter 3:15 encourages believers to be ready to give a reason for their hope but to do so with gentleness and respect.

Don’t let Satan win in your circle of neighbors. This week be bold and courageous in your neighbors’ lives sharing a peace that passes all understanding through a hope in Jesus. Fervently pray to God about how to step into the messiness of people’s lives, how to be present in their pain, and how to love them. Then go, don’t hesitate, go and let them know they can count on you because of your God.

April 2024 Newsletter

Welcome to our April 2024 newsletter!

We are thrilled to share with you the latest developments in HCC’s Local Outreach ministry and our mission to unleash hope in St Charles County. Firstly, we would like to express our gratitude to all of our volunteers who continue to serve consistently to build relationships with our neighbors in St. Charles County. Continue to share information, opportunities, and prayers with your friends and family. You all are GREAT ambassadors.

In terms of our recent activities, Local Outreach volunteers have been BI-ZEEEE! We cooked and served hundreds of pancakes at Harvest Ridge Elementary, we served at The Sharing Shed, we assembled gifts and wrote thank you cards to local school teachers, and we served at Barnwell Middle during their Kona Ice Days.

With more and more people finding their way to Harvester we need more and more Guest Services volunteers. In particular, more Parking Lot volunteers would be great! Check-in with Brendon to see what that would look like. Local Outreach and Guest Services had their first fellowship meal in March. It was just a nice time to come together over a fabulous potluck meal and get to know each other better with no other agenda. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. Thank you for your continued support! Enjoy this month’s newsletter!

DID YOU KNOW? April is Child Abuse Prevention Month & Foster Care Awareness Month

The zip code 63376 which runs through the cities of St. Peters, Cottleville, and parts of St. Charles has the highest substantiated rate of of child sexual abuse. This is one of the reasons we are partnering with the Child Advocacy Center to bring the free Stewards of Children: Darkness to Light Training. EVERY adult needs to protect all children. As the saying goes, knowledge is power and eliminates fear. Join us on April 11th 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Large Conference Room in the lower level of the Offices to learn how to prevent and protect children from experiencing abuse.

We are also excited to announce that we will be hosting an informational meeting for Safe Families for Children on April 23rd from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. in the FLC. Safe Families for Children hosts vulnerable children and creates extended family–like supports for families through a community of devoted volunteers meeting is for families that would like to learn more about becoming a host family. This meeting is also for those who want to support host families with things like babysitting, transportation, meals, and resources. Register for one or both of these events on the HCC website or email Carissa at cfiggins@harvester.cc

Safe Families for Children

“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
